The Homer Township Fire Protection District has established a Foreign Fire Insurance Tax Board based on a new law that passed earlier this year. These funds are received from insurance companies based outside of the State of Illinois that insure businesses within our fire district. They are taxed at a rate of 2% and these funds are given directly the fire district, which are then appropriated by the board. Per Illinois state law these funds are to only be appropriated by the board and only be used to benefit the firefighters. The board consists of 6 members of the district who are voted in to office, as well as the Fire Chief. The board has adopted to meet quarterly at fire station 1, and abides by Illinois open meetings act.
